Meet Our Founder,
James Walker

With close to 8 years leading impactful climate mitigation initiatives, James Walker founded Somerset Origination to guide clients through the carbon certification process and deliver projects with lasting positive impacts for climate, people and nature. His background includes an LLB and an MSc in Environmental Management (Water), along with experiences across financial institutions.

James is a Certified Expert in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance from Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. He is co-chair of the Millenium Water Alliance Climate Finance Technical Working Group, part of the Gold Standard Foundation Roster of Experts and is now included in the Article 6.4 Roster of Experts for Climate Policy Specialization (01/04/2026 to 31/03/2028). He is the former Operations Director at CO2balance where he increased the projects portfolio and expanded the teams in the UK and Uganda.

James’ vision for Somerset Origination is to simplify the carbon certification journey to allow innovative project ideas and solutions-driven organisations to succeed in the carbon markets.
